FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Prince George, B.C. – Work is underway to upgrade mechanical systems at Two Rivers Gallery until June 2026. The City of Prince George started work on the $2.74 million project on April 7, 2026.

Although the building is leased by Two Rivers Gallery, it is owned and maintained by the City. Construction on the gallery started in 1999, making the building and components 27 years old.

The mechanical system is at the end of its service life and requires replacement to maintain the gallery's Department of Canadian Heritage class A designation. The designation requires reliable building climate controls within specific temperature and humidity control ranges, as well as monitoring to safely borrow and store art objects and collections from similar class facilities. The updated mechanical system will also address emerging climate changes and support building functions during extreme weather conditions.

Nearby businesses may experience temporary disruptions during the work period and have been notified. Construction noise is expected between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday and on some Saturdays. The alley behind the gallery will be temporarily closed during early morning crane lifts.

Two Rivers Gallery at 725 Canada Games Way is closed for the duration of the project; however, some programs and events will continue and a temporary location at 1322 3rd Avenue will open on April 15. Visit the gallery website for up-to-date information.
