Event-filled weekend to cause traffic and facility disruptions

Prince George, B.C. – An exciting weekend full of events will impact traffic and several civic facilities in the coming days. 

Special Olympics BC Summer Games 

The City is pleased to host a number of Special Olympics BC Summer Games events at its facilities and sports fields including the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, Aquatic Centre, and Masich Place Stadium this week. The main pool at the Aquatic Centre is closed from July 10 at 9 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m. on July 12 for the competition. The wave pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and gym will remain open for the public. Public walking is not available at Masich Place Stadium from July 10 at 6 p.m. until July 13 at 6 a.m. More information about the events schedule can be found on the Special Olympics British Columbia website

Community Art Days

Two Rivers Art Gallery Community Art Days are scheduled to take place in Canada Games Plaza alongside Tourism Prince George’s Nanguz ‘An container market on July 11 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and July 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free, all-ages event includes art activities, live music, and more. 

PG Pride Festival

The PG Pride Festival and Market will take place downtown on July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade route starts at 9th Avenue and Brunswick Street and continues along Brunswick Street to 4th Avenue, from 4th Avenue to George Street, and follows George Street to Veteran’s Plaza at City Hall where the market will take place. Drivers are asked to avoid the area to ensure the safety of parade participants and spectators. 

Free parking is available all day at City-owned lots and parkades on weekends and on weekdays after 5 p.m. Residents are encouraged view the map of downtown parking on the City website to familiarize themselves with available options before attending events this weekend. Traffic and pedestrian network disruptions are also posted each business day to the City’s website and are available here.
