FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The City of Prince George is launching an update to its Active Transportation Plan and is inviting residents to help shape the future of walking, cycling, and rolling in the community.

The updated Plan will guide the development of infrastructure and programs that support safer, more accessible, and more convenient travel options for people of all ages and abilities—whether on foot, by bike, using a wheelchair, or by scooter. The initiative aligns with key City strategies, including the Climate Change Mitigation Plan, Parks Strategy, and Asset Management Strategy, and responds to the priorities identified in the Draft 2025 Official Community Plan. The location-specific feedback gathered during the Official Community Plan engagement process will help inform the City’s "Existing Conditions" report, which is expected to be finished this summer.

Why Now?

Active transportation is a critical component of a healthy, connected, and sustainable city. As Prince George continues to grow, so does the need for a modern, inclusive active transportation network that enables residents to travel safely and comfortably across the community. The City’s existing Active Transportation Plan was developed in 2010, since that time design guidance and planning approaches have changed and an update is needed to reflect best practice.

Public Engagement Opportunities

The City is encouraging residents to share their ideas for the future of active transportation in Prince George. Community input will play a key role in shaping the plan’s direction and outcomes.  More detail on engagement opportunities will be shared over the coming months.
