Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George is moving forward with the next phase of public engagement on its Active Transportation Plan with new online surveys and an open house on December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. The updated plan will help guide the development of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure that makes it easier and safer to travel the community.

Starting today, November 24, participants can provide feedback on the draft maps through two online surveys on the City website. On December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m., residents are invited to stop by the Active Transportation Plan open house at the Prince George Public Library Bob Harkins branch. Staff will be on site to answer questions and gather feedback on the proposed transportation network connections and improvements.

“Earlier this summer, we gathered a ton of information from the community about what’s working well and what needs improvement when it comes to walking, cycling, and rolling in Prince George,” said transit planner, Daniel Pearce, “using that feedback, we created draft network maps, policies, and actions and we want to understand how participants feel about this work – did we get it right? Are there further improvements that could be made? We invite everyone to the library on December 3 to help us answer those questions.”

The draft was informed by resident feedback through the Official Community Plan update project, meetings with key community groups, and an interactive web map where participants were asked to provide location-specific comments about the current transportation network and how it could be improved. More than 1,000 map contributions highlighted accessibility and safety issues, network gaps, and areas where maintenance is required. Participants also shared comments about areas that are working well including new roundabouts, protected crossings, and paved trails, paths, and sidewalks. The community engagement summary highlights the feedback the City has received to date.

For residents who can’t attend the in-person event on December 3, online surveys are available now until December 14.
